A couple of things you should know about

There are a couple of things that I wanted to update you guys on:

1. Yeah, it's been a long time since I did any updates.  I'll have them more frequently.
2. I moved the teamspeak server to fragdog.dyndns.org:8767
3. I'm building a L4D server so we'll have our own.
4. Looking to add some maps and mods to the new server.

New L4D server

The new Fragdog L4D server is now operational.  We will have to test it out to see how it runs and make changes, but it is running.  Look for the Fragdog.com server in the main game menu.

We now have a L4D server

I've worked out all of the problems with the L4D server.  It's ours, it's fast and it doesn't crash.

LAN Parties LAN XIX: The End of the World

To celebrate the impending enslavement of the Earth, we're going to have a Steam-inspired LAN party. We'll be playing Half Life: 2, Team Fortress, and Unreal Tournament. The version of UT will be up for a vote. Either UT2004 or UT3, your choice. Unfortunately, we don't know the exact moment the LHC will tear a hold through the fabric of space-time, but chances are having a LAN party afterward will be somewhat challenging under our oppressive new alien overlords. Just to play it safe, we'll have the event on October 18th, starting at 5:00pm for you early birds. There will be end-of-the-world beverages with alien overlords pizza. Of course, this is just our regular pizza and soda dressed up like a pit bull in lipstick. A cute, mascotty kind of pit bull that bumps your mouse hand while you're playing. The pizza will likely be from Pointers, but we could do Dewey's instead.
Your end-of-the-world LAN party survival kit should include:

1. A gaming PC
2. An ethernet cable
3. Human enslavement devices, such as a mouse, keyboard and headphones (Our new masters don't want to hear your damn game!)
4. Monitors will be available on a first-come, first-served basis and by reservation only. They are CRTs.
5. Copies of the games you want to play with the rest of us.
6. HEV Suit and crowbar are optional, but recommended.

Please vote for the version of Unreal you'd like to play.

  System News Site Forums: Updated

We knew it was possible and it turns out the worst has happened. All of the data contained within the forums has been lost, so we're going to have to start over from scratch. Honestly, how far back did you guys read anyway? Expect a lot of activity in the forums in the next week. We're still taking your suggestions for new forums, and I will remove forums that are unused.

To help you navigate some of the new features of the site, I'm going to break down the changes. The changes are designed to make it harder for spammers and spiders to access the site, while having little or no impact on you. As always, you must be a registered user to post in the forums. In order to log in, you will need to provide your username, password, and the letters, numbers and symbols in the graphic window. You will not be able to leave feedback with more than two links in the message. I've never seen a human post containing more than two links in these areas, so I doubt it will affect anybody. New user applications will all be manually approved my me. For security reasons, outside avatars will no longer be allowed. It's fairly easy to simply upload one and use that one. I will post the instructions in the forums for people who have questions. Beyond that, there are several new security changes being made behind the scenes to prevent hacks and other security holes. If you encounter any issues with the site, such as blank pages or error messages, please leave feedback.

  System News Site Forums

As you may have noticed, the forums are a little empty. This is due to rampant spam and hackers. The database that holds the forums has crashed. A recovery is in process, but it is likely that the old data will not survive and it will not be able to be recovered. The forums will remain intact and once the repairs have been completed, the forums will be reopened. The forums at Fragdog have always been one of my favorite aspects. I see a great potential within them. Fragdog has a lot of intelligent users with high technical ability that have lots to contribute to the world community. While rebuilding the forums, I will make them more searchable by search engines to attract new users who need our help or have something to contribute as well.

While the general population of Fragdog has high technical abilities, everyone has a speciality that they excel in. Some people know Linux, some are good at overclocking, while others have experience in HAM radio. I'd like to see the forums move in new directions that our members want to see. With this in mind, I offer you your own forum. Let me know the topic and I will create the forum and appoint you moderator. No reasonable request (and some of the unreasonable ones) will be refused. You must be a current registered user of Fragdog.com to apply. Please leave feedback or send me a private message if you're interested.

World News Large Hadron Collider Won't End the World

I've seen in the media that a lot of people are terrified that the LHC is going to create a black hole which will destory the world. I've also seen reports that it will create a new exotic particle that will cause the end of humanity. This is all, of course, completely wrong. What it will do is open a portal to another dimension that will allow monsters, such as head crabs, a way to access our delicious heads. These head crabs will then turn people into zombies who will become extremely strong and they will beat normal people up. Eventually, the leaders from the next dimension will exploit the rift and wage war against our world. In a matter of hours, we will lose the war and become the slaves of these otherworldly creatures. Some humans will become part of Civil Protection, a brutal police force designed to keep the population in check. Others will form a pitiful resistance and live their lives on the fringes. They will be more like rats than people. There has been some legal opposition to the LHC, but it's all failed. Death threats have been sent to the scientists to keep them from stopping, but the men in white coats continue on their steadfast journey to the end. This Wednesday, the death of millions and the enslavement of all humanity will commence. How do I know? Because I've played the entire Half-Life series. I for one welcome our alien overlords. Maybe I can become the administrator of City 17 if I play my cards right.

LAN Parties LAN XVIII: The LAN Party After Tomorrow

It seems like just yesterday that we were having a LAN party and we were playing Unreal Tournament 2004, Enemy Territory, and World in Conflict. However, with all of the TF2 and COD4 that's being pumped into the virtual world, the climate of gaming is changing.

All of a sudden, and with very little warning, the day after tomorrow will hold a very different gaming climate. That's right! LAN XVIII will be held on Saturday, March 1st, at 6:00pm! The games on the docket will be Team Fortress 2, Call of Duty 4, and World in Conflict. If you have any of these games, you should be there! As always, there will be pizza and beverages. There are no real upgrades system-wise to speak of, unless you count the new 10x1 high speed WAN connection. There's also a very large new rack at Fragdog Command, but it doesn't really do anything right now. If you need a monitor, let me know in advance. If you want pizza, bring your life savings, which, by my estimate, should be around $5.00. I'll provide the Mt. Dew, Red Bull, and Bawls. Make sure you have your power and network cables. See you there.
